SAN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA, JANUARY 21, 2021

2020 was a challenging and fearful year, but may also have served as the wake-up call we needed to care more about what matters: our health, what we eat, how we grow our food, and how we preserve our environment? At ClearLeaf, where the core team has been working hard since 2017, 2020 was certainly the year that opened doors to success:

  • ClearLeaf’s flagship GotaBlanca® product, designed to protect crops from pathogens without harming human health or the environment demonstrated efficiency on 40 of the most commercially important plant pathogens worldwide;

  • GotaBlanca® obtained its certificate of conformity to Europe Union Organic Standard (CE N°889/2008), Japanese Organic Standard (JAS/MAFF), and Costa Rica Organic Standard (MAG 29782);

  • ClearLeaf successively raised US$500,000 in Seed Money in an extremely challenging year.

“As a new challenging year begins, ClearLeaf is currently in discussions with several of the largest agrochemical distributors in Costa Rica for both organic and conventional markets. In Colombia and Ecuador, two countries that are critically important for scaling, we are well-advanced in the registration process, for multiple crops. We are also in the final stage of releasing new products for soil protection and in vitro propagation. 2021 will be the breakout year for the company in terms of commercial sales, and we are investing in it, hiring technical sales specialists in each major market.” Says Néstor Zúñiga Arias, ClearLeaf’s Managing Director.

“We can definitely do well by doing good, as was always core to our values at ClearLeaf. Building a sustainable and healthy future for all of us is possible. It requires research, commitment, and competitive products. The agriculture industry is aware of the emergency situation in chemical use, including the planned ban of many current products. We have safe, effective next-generation solutions ready for market.” Explains Dr. Agustin Büchert, Chief Science Officer.

“2021 will be an exciting year for us as our full line of products enters our home market of Costa Rica -- a recognized technology leader in coffee, bananas, and other tropical products. Our new developments are already generating strong interest from many countries and sectors, as we have highly effective low-impact products, at a time when very few viable alternatives are reaching the market. Later in 2021, we plan to launch our “A Round” of funding in order to secure new country registrations, more IP protection, and greater production capacity. That’s an exciting next step for our Company.” Concludes Lawrence Pratt, ClearLeaf’s CEO.

Founded in 2017 in Costa Rica, ClearLeaf develops sustainable crop protection and improvement strategies that manage the impacts of harmful pests while maintaining natural balances on the farm, protecting farmers and consumers. GotaBlanca® technology, based on USFDA- approved medical technology, currently has pre and post-harvest solutions for coffee, banana, sugar cane, and flower sectors, and has ongoing pilots for pineapple, cannabis, citrus, grapes, and a variety of vegetables. ClearLeaf also has a new line of products for easier, safer, and more cost-effective in vitro propagation.
